Professor Sara Cantillon has been appointed Gender Expert for Ireland under the European Commission DG Reform funded technical support program on Gender Mainstreaming in Public Policy. Co-ordinated through Expertise France, Professor Cantillon will support strengthening gender and equality proofing in Ireland throughout the policy cycle in conjunction with the Equality Unit in the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. The Project will run for two and a half years and colleagues in the Wise Centre including PhD student Dominic Lo, Dr Nina Teasdale and Professor Angela O’Hagan will provide expertise in building assessment capacity for gender and equality policy. The expert support provided to the Irish Government will enable departments to systematically and accurately identify gender impacts, thereby enabling the development of public policy that is more aware of the barriers that can lead to inequality in employment opportunities and progression.
