Dr Angela O’Hagan has contributed to a new report that calls for sweeping reforms to be made to establish a “fairer Scotland”.
The SNP’s Social Justice and Fairness Commission has proposed a range of measures, including moves to decriminalise drugs for personal use, scrap council tax and eradicate poverty.
The commission’s final report illustrates what could be achieved with the full powers of independence but also suggests progressive policies using devolved powers.
It calls for a pilot of Universal Basic Income and the Minimum Income Guarantee to be trialled as a way of reducing poverty in Scotland
Dr O’Hagan was appointed to bring insight and evidence from the Commission on a Gender Equal Economy, GCU’s WISE Centre for Economic Justice and the Scottish Poverty and Inequality Research Unit to the table.
A copy of the Commission’s full report is available via the SNP’s website.
