In autumn 2015 Lenzie Academy re-launched its school house scheme, nominating the late Prof. Ailsa McKay as one of the outstanding Scots to bear a house name. Since then, Dr Jim Campbell and Dr Angela O’Hagan of WiSE have presented at a House Assembly in March 2016, and the school have introduced the Ailsa McKay Award for Outstanding Contribution to the House System, in keeping with Ailsa’s commitment to improving people’s lives. WiSE were invited to present the special prize and Angela O’Hagan was the guest of Lenzie Academy on 15 June, presenting the whole school prize and commented afterwardsThis year’s recipient of The Ailsa McKay Award for Outstanding Contribution to the House System was Reece Chan (pictured with Headmaster Brian Paterson and Dr O’Hagan). Reece was House Captain of Fleming House, leading his house and a team of Prefects as well as organising and leading a number of charity events, learning opportunities, house acivities and events – including setting up the Dr Who Club. Reece is also a Young Ambassador for Sport Scotland.
“What an inspiration to see such clever, engaging, and energetic young people and the commitment to social change. Hopefully it’s the start of a long relationship between WiSE and Lenzie Academy, especially as some of the teachers most closely involved in this initiative are Economics graduates from GCU. An extra special bonus was McKay House winning the House Cup! Not that I’m biased.”
