4th-year Occupational Therapy student Sofia Congradyova discusses her time at the university so far, the opportunities offered to her and her future plans and goals.
Why you chose to study your course at GCU?
GCU was highly ranked in occupational therapy and the modules sounded really interesting.
Favourite thing about studying your course at GCU?
The lecturers are very supportive, approachable and always try their best to help us succeed.
What opportunities have been offered to you through studying your course at GCU?
The SA offers so many opportunities to make a change, gain new skills and meet new people. I am currently part of the LESC and Senate and gained so many skills in these roles. I am also on the committees of the OT and pole society and a member of the mountaineering club, where I found amazing friends with shared interests.
Has studying your course at GCU prepared you for working life?
Yes! I think my course is not only focused on teaching us how do the things that OTs already do but also give us tools to further develop our profession and create change, which makes me really excited to go out in practice.
Favourite module studied and why?
Inclusive environment to facilitate occupational justice. We went out and assessed how accessible different environments are for people with disabilities (e.g. the library, train station). Since this module, I look at things differently. I still catch myself sometimes looking at how steep a ramp is or how high the shelves are.
What is your plan when you finish studying?
I would like work for a little bit and then do a Masters Degree.
What is your 5-year plan?
I would like to work as an occupational therapist in Germany.
