4th-year Diagnostic Imaging student Catherine Mackay discusses her time at the university so far, the opportunities offered to her and her future plans and goals.
Why you chose to study your course at GCU?

Placement and volunteering opportunities available, great community spirit within the departments itself and wider GCU community.
What opportunities have been offered to you through studying your course at GCU?
– Collaborative online international learning project with the University of Auckland Radiography department
– Represent the department at open days
– Travel to schools to promote radiography as a career opportunity
Has studying your course at GCU prepared you for working life?
Placements throughout the year allow you to build a relationship with staff in the hospitals we will be applying for jobs in – makes both students, staff and patients more comfortable and confident.
Favourite module studied and why?
Pattern Recognition in Radiography – led by reporting radiographer Karen Brogan, it studies fractures and pathologies of the human body and provides us with skills on interpreting and reporting resultant images.
What is your plan when you finish studying?
Hopefully get a job as a Band 5 Radiographer writhing NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.
What is your 5-year plan?
2 years Band 5 experience in general radiography, followed by CT work and Band 6 promotion. Gain valuable CPD and work experience within the reporting radiology department to eventually practice as a reporting radiographer.
