“My favourite thing about studying at GCU is the friendly and supportive campus environment.”

MSc International Banking and Finance and Risk Management student Emmanuel Oyakhilome Akhimien discusses his time at the university so far, the opportunities offered to him and his future plans and goals.

Why you chose to study your course at GCU?

One of the most profound questions that anyone will ask themselves is -Who are you? Who am I? Why do you want to be here? It seems like such an easy question, yet the profundity of which is lost on many; and even Me.

It is an on-going process, at the risk of stating the obvious, a continuous self-discovery, one that last through a life time. Apologies – I do not mean to wax philosophical.

University is the bed-rock of self-discovery just like GCU; So, what other reason(s) would there be different than the opportunity to study Finance in a world class University? First, the level of quality is immense and represents a dream fulfilment on my part. Secondly, it is an opportunity to be part of an exquisite University experience that boast of its Alumni from 130 Countries. I wished to study Finance at Glasgow Caledonian University because, I want to be at the heart of policy once I finished with my course.

Additionally, I would also like to be familiar with the tenets of managerial finance – the reason being – I would like the honour of steering the financial destiny of a major corporation, one that I have begun or otherwise.

As one who loves working with technology and believes that technology is the skin of our species, combining my passion for finance with technology, would be an ideal state of affairs.

Furthermore, Glasgow Caledonian University provides a perfect climate for me to pursue graduate research in Mobile-Money Finance, particularly in East Africa and China Cashless Phenomenon – like FINTEC intends to interpret.
