“The module offers a multitude of theoretical frameworks that are applicable to real-life situations.”

4th– year Accountancy student Ivan Morena discusses his time at the university so far, his favourite thing about life at the university and his future plans and goals.

Why you chose to study your course at GCU?

I had heard great feedback and one of them was that the lecturers call you by name and make you feel accountable, which for me is a must.

Favourite thing about studying your course at GCU?

The Lecturers. They are extremely down to earth and go the extra mile to help and support you. I will miss them.

What opportunities have been offered to you through studying your course at GCU?

Getting the right qualifications to get the job I wanted to do and escaping from the “hospitality bubble”.

Has studying your course at GCU prepared you for working life?

Definitely. I have acquired a great level of knowledge in terms of accounting, time management, working under pressure, sacrifice, etc.

Favourite module studied and why?

Advanced Management Accounting (Year 4 module). The lecturer, Stuart McCleary, is the best lecturer I’ve ever had in my life, and the module offers a multitude of theoretical frameworks that are applicable to real-life situations.

What is your plan when you finish studying?

If it was entirely up to me, I would love to stay at GCU as an employee now that, unfortunately, my time as a GCU student is coming to an end, which is why I have applied for a few job positions within the University and I am positive I have a very good chance.

What is your 5-year plan?

I don’t have an answer for it just now, simply because I believe that the dynamicity of the world does not longer allow for proper long-term planning, which is why, despite what I would personally love, 50% (if not even more) will not be in my control but depending on the circumstances.
