We now have a subscription to BoB National (Box of Broadcasts). BoB is an off-air recording and media archive service which is available to staff and students. It allows you to record TV and radio programmes that are scheduled to be broadcast over the next seven days as well as retrieving programmes from the last seven days from a selected list of recorded channels.
After a programme is recorded users can stream a Flash video in a web page – in a similar way to BBC’s iPlayer. BoB also stores recorded TV and Radio programmes in an archive for all users to enjoy. The archive currently offers over 45,000 TV and radio programmes covering all genres.
Users can record programmes, watch programmes from the archive, create clips, search for programmes coming up in the next seven days by title or keyword, compile their favourite shows into playlists and share these with others.
Clips and programmes can be placed on GCU Learn, but due to licence restrictions, students in countries outside of the UK cannot access this material. So any embedded programmes will still be protected by an Athens login.
To use BoB:
- Go to http://bobnational.net/
- From the left-hand panel homepage start typing Glasgow Caledonian, select and hit the login button
- First time users (staff and students) will be asked to register, but any further access will be through Athens username and password
There is more information and help on using the service on the BoB National website and these YouTube videos released by Bournemouth University:
