2022 International Event Management graduate Sophie Clark shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.
I chose to study at GCU because…
I chose GCU as I attended a pathways course with City of Glasgow College and felt GCU would be a great place to provide opportunities to help me in my degree after graduation! It was also very accessible into the city centre!
The most important aspect of my university experience has been…
After spending most of my university experience in lockdown, the support given by the university has been great with adapting to online learning, and I found how well the university does at hosting events for students especially in sports teams and allowing students the opportunity to meet others.
My biggest lesson learned so far is…
That even if you’re struggling with any aspect of university life, that someone else is probably struggling with the same thing. You’re not alone at uni, and after being afraid to reach out at first to lecturers and other students, as soon as I started to reach out to people, it made me more confident as these struggles were things everyone was facing and not just myself!
I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…
I joined GCU through a pathways clearing programme as I didn’t meet requirements for other university’s and thought I’d never be able to go to uni, but GCU provides amazing opportunities for people and helps to support them throughout their experience here.
I get my inspiration from…
My inspiration for going to uni was from my grandad, who passed away when I was in 2nd year. He always told me I’d make it through even when I thought it was difficult and now as a graduate, I couldn’t be happier to have finished my honours degree for him!
My next steps look like…
Working full time to gain experience in the event industry, and travelling the world to gain event experience in different cultures of the world!
You are most likely to bump into me…
At Starbucks as the coffee addition after university is still strong!
