2022 Building Surveying graduate Amy Tourish shares her insight into life at GCU and life after graduating from university.
I chose to study at GCU because…
It was recommended to me by friends when choosing my course, I was always aware of GCU as it’s where most people I know have gone – so why go against the grain? I trusted GCU’s good reputation and applied to study here.
The most important aspect of my university experience has been…
Meeting fellow graduate surveyors. Lockdown was tough in that I was a 2nd year entry student, so only benefited from being in physical classes for 1 year of my studies. However, the friends I made during this time kept in touch over social media and we supported each other through the remainder of our studies.
My biggest lesson learned so far is…
This is a cliché – but I learned very early on that if you think a coursework will take 2 weeks, give yourself 3. Trust me – you’ll thank me later!
I’m proud to be part of the University for the Common Good because…
Of everything the university has achieved in equality, diversity, ethics and so much more. I am proud to say I was a part of that.
I get my inspiration from…
My partner. He never settles for second best and always goes above and beyond in his achievements. He has taught me to just get my head down and get on with it and the sky’s the limit!
My next steps look like…
I have recently secured a role as a graduate surveyor within a Glasgow firm. My next steps are to gain the knowledge and experience to sit my APC to eventually become a Chartered Surveyor.
You are most likely to bump into me…
At a basketball game, or in Paesano. Besides surveying, my life revolves around sports and food (I like to think this counts as a balanced lifestyle).
