Get up, up and away with GE Caledonian.
General Electric isn’t just about light bulbs. It’s the world’s fifth largest employer with a lot to offer graduates. It has roles across the degree disciplines and across the globe. The aviation company GE Caledonian is based in Prestwick. Recently, the Careers Service visited the company to talk about opportunities for our students and graduates. GE Caledonian wants to develop its relationship with GCU and the other West of Scotland universities. With a staff of 807, it’s growing its workforce. Its new internship scheme offers experience in engineering, as well as in HR, finance, IT and marketing, and the number of internships available is increasing. Internships are also a route into the graduate programme in Operational Management and Leadership.
GE Caledonian has already started getting to know Glasgow Caledonian University. In November last year they took part in our online SEC fair. Sign-up to read their chats and profile. Watch out for future visits, here. We’ll invite them to discuss internships and graduate roles. Right now you can apply to the Production Planning Internship, a 12 month business placement. The closing date is 30 April 2010
And if you go to our Vacancies pages, you’ll find finance opportunities at General Electric. You’ll also find engineering opportuntities in GE Heathcare and in GE Aviation.
Cheers. Dan

Why Not Japan? Japan looks cool.
Why not have a look at the Daiwa Scholarships? They’re open to British citizens in lots of different areas.
Or, what about teaching in Japan?
And, hey, if you’re a Biology student you should check out this job with Shusaku Yamamoto. Why not Osaka?
Or if you’re an Engineering student you could work for Toyota’s Europe HQ in Belgium. Toyota are good to work for and they’ve got loads of jobs available. Just go to our Vacancies pages and search for the employer name “Toyota Motor Europe” in “Jobs After Graduating”.
Also, a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) Marketing Manager job has come up with Caley Uni Business School, which isn’t anything to do with Japan, but is really cool anyway.
Oh man, I really want to go to Japan now. So much cool stuff has come out of there, like Hokusai and Hello Kitty. What do people think about working in Japan?

Art is cool. The Sainsbury family has a really great collection of Art. It’s at the University of East Anglia, which is where I was an undergraduate. They’ve got Degas, Bacon, Moore, Giacometti…hmm. I like Art.
Oh yeah, those Sainsbury folks also have something to do with that supermarket, don’t they? Sainsbury’s has great graduate schemes, y’know? And they’re recruiting now! Check it out, all you graduates and final year students! And if you’re not in your final year yet, it’s worth looking into their student placement stuff.
And what about the other supermarkets. Don’t dismiss it straight away. Look into what they offer graduates. What about Lidl? Lidl are promoting some pretty appealing positions.
So… what do people think about working for a supermarket? Super, right?
